This seminar assessed priorities for skills and apprenticeships policy in Northern Ireland, and was structured to bring out the latest thinking on what is needed to support key sectors in Northern Ireland and the Belfast City Region Deal.
The agenda included a case study on the Swiss apprenticeships system and looked at the lessons that might be applied in Northern Ireland, particularly in developing the role of businesses and the support available to them.
Delegates also discussed the further steps that might be taken to develop effective apprenticeship pathways, and considered the challenges for creating high-quality and flexible qualifications, including degree apprenticeships.
Further sessions examined opportunities for promoting diversity and social mobility - and how best to meet the needs of apprentices and those taking non-traditional routes.
